Hope that holds in the dark.
Hope is not optimism. Optimism says things will get better; biblical hope says Someone holds us even when they don't. Romans 15 calls God Himself "the God of hope" — hope is a Person before it's a feeling.
Pastor Sarah walks through what it means to be filled with hope by the Holy Spirit: how lament and hope belong together, why waiting seasons are forming seasons, and how a church family carries hope for each other when one of us can't carry it alone.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him."
Romans 15:13Three takeaways
Hope has an address
Our hope isn't in outcomes but in Christ — which means it survives bad news, bad days, and bad years.
Lament is holy ground
A third of the Psalms are laments. Bringing God our grief isn't weak faith — it's honest faith.
Borrow hope from family
When your hope runs thin, let the church believe with you. That's what we're here for.
Reflect this week
- Am I hoping in an outcome, or in a Person?
- What grief have I been avoiding bringing to God?
- Who in my life needs me to carry hope with them?
